The Devil and my Xbox360

Greetings Faithful Readers,

I've got to warn you on the front end...this post is a bit nerdy. Check that...if my normal posts are shirts and khakis...this one is a full-on Starfleet Uniform complete with operational tricorder and captain's bars.

Still there...good. Let's get this blog up to Warp Factor 9.

Last night I was up late. I had been answering prayer requests...setting up a new small group start...and reading....when I had an overwhelming feeling to just unplug for an hour or so. Not really do anything of consequence...you know what I'm talking about...leap off the grid...

I got up and turned on my Xbox360. Those of you that know me (or have been with this blog for awhile) know that I am a gamer. Not hardcore... But I do enjoy the occasional video game....alright...I rock at Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Anyway, I decided I would play through a few tunes on Guitar Hero 3 on the Expert difficulty. Faithful reader, it was as if the spirit of Jimi Hendrix had descended upon me. I shredded through some of the hardest songs in the game! I decided to try my luck against the final boss on the hard level: The Devil. No kidding. (Spoiler alert!) The last song in Guitar Hero 3 is : "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" against the devil himself. I had tried this song at least 50 times before and never got close ...I thought tonight was my night.

Indeed it was. I beat him. Convincingly. I did my late nite happy dance and went to save the game to preserve my achievement for future generations. I got skillz.

It was then that I heard the sound....grrrrrrrrnnnnddddddd. Clink. Not good. I looked at my TV to see my beautiful achievement replaced by an error. E-68. Hard Drive Failure. The Xbox360 equivalent of "He's Dead, Jim" All my game saves....gone. Forever. Quietly, I walked over to a corner of my study and began to weep. A slow, steady stream of tears releasing the inner turmoil that started when I was a child. My Id, Ego, and Superego all bruised and beaten. My innermost soul scarred by disappointment and heart break.

Not really. I was pretty ticked though. I went on the web to see if there was a solution....indeed there is. Get it repaired. This morning, I turned to my wife for solace through this difficult time in my life. Her response: "I guess the devil was getting you back for beating him at Guitar Hero."

I'm glad you think she's funny.
