Can I take my vacation in mid-June?

Greetings faithful readers...

I just found out that all AT&T employees have been asked to NOT take vacations from June 12 - July 15th. I wonder why they would need all of their employees in the store at the same time... Do you think they might have a big product to launch?

I have another 11 hours to kill on a hot sidewalk...iPhone 2.0 anyone?

Faithful Readers...

Greetings Faithful Readers...

Sorry about the lack of posts lately.  It's not that nothing has been going on...I've just been writing so much lately on other Internet Campus blogs/posts/devotionals etc.  that I have had a tough time getting motivated to write something here.  I am working on a schedule for myself to blog every day...even if it is just something minor.  I know...the proof is in the pudding...but I'm really going to try.

See...I've written something already...

Viva Las Recap

Greetings Faithful Readers...

Well it was back to the Internet Campus studio after a week at NAB in Las Vegas. I was asked by so many tonight if I "had a good trip" in Las Vegas. Honestly, I don't know if this is possible...but I did learn a few things and made a few observations. I know my last post was a list...but it is the best way I could think of to deliver disconnected thoughts in a somewhat orderly way...

1) We went to see the Cirque show..."Love" at the Mirage. What an incredible show! The stagecraft, lighting, sound, performance, and tech that went into this show was absolutely amazing. If you are ever in Vegas...make a point to go. The tickets are a bit pricey...but it is worth it.

2) The M&Ms store in Las Vegas is 4 stories tall. They have everything from M and M banks to guitars to fine gold jewelry. Honestly, I don't know what else they could possibly put that logo on.... the candy was available as well...at the discount price of 11 dollars a pound. Melts in your mouth not in your wallet.

3) I had a chocolate flavored Diet Coke in the Coke store on The Strip. Mmmmm....

4) We ate lunch one day at the Peppermill. Think of it as a cross between Denny's and a strip club (just the look...no strippers inside...). The interior has neon lights, palm trees, a fire pit....and a mean grilled cheese sandwich. This photo is some of the group that ate there together.

5) Carolina deserves the biggest credit from the trip. The only female there. A rose among thorns.

6) I could model for the Sears catalog...look at this photo from the trip!

7) Heredes still does the best imitation of Heredes.

8 ) I walked to Arizona. One side of Hoover Dam is in Nevada and the other is in Arizona.

9) If the tech team were to ever record an album together...this would have to be the cover.

10) The trip was a great success. We all learned so much in our ministries...had some fun...and discovered something about each other. I would share what we learned...but you know what they say...it has to stay in Vegas!

Thanks for stopping by...see you on campus!

Today in the City of Sin

IMG_0576.JPG
Greetings Faithful Readers...

I am sitting right now writing this post and looking out my hotel window.  I see the Vegas Strip in all of its glory right below me...a million lights...hard to believe people actually come here for vacation...

I am here for the NAB conference (National Association of Broadcasters).  I've been once before, but this time I am coming under different circumstances.  While I once was searching for ways to make the TV show better...now I am researching Internet Streaming solutions and studio lights for the Internet Campus.  I am out here with the video team and the Internet Campus team...we're learning a lot and having fun.

I spoke today with Microsoft (about Silverlight), Adobe (about Adobe Media Player), and Flip4Mac about updating their plug-in.  Oh, and I also walked by Chuck D of Public Enemy fame and met and took a picture with "Survivorman" Les Stroud (see above).  Overall a good day!

See you tomorrow!

The Sincerest Form of Flattery

Greetings Faithful Readers...

Found this cool hat today at Target. Of course, I had to take my picture in it. Naturally, I had to do my best impression of the one man who makes these hats look cool....Heredes. What do you think? Pretty close to Heredes?

photo.jpg

Is it just me or does he always look surprised to be in his own photos.

Love ya Heredes...

PS: Chin beard and sideburns complements of Photoshop

Please adjust bookmarks...the page accessible by bvasil.wordpress.com (the one you're on now) will no longer be updated.

Hopefully this is the last change

The Stevenote

Greetings Faithful Readers...

Well, the Steve's keynote has come and gone...what did you think?  Here's my .02

1)  The Time Capsule - WHA???   The Airport Base Station with a "Server Class" internal drive?  Sure, cool if you don't have one...but show us some love, Apple...I paid dearly for the ABS and just want to plug my existing hard drive in and have the ability to sync time machine wirelessly.  The jury is still out...that functionality might come with the upgrade to Leopard 10.5.2

2)  iPhone Update 1.1.3 -  Now we're talking...great update.  I've been patiently waiting for substantial changes since the phone released.  I like the multiple SMS and the locator additions especially.  The only thing I can say is....more!

3)  Apple TV update - Another big round of applause.  A huge update to Apple TV AND I don't have to buy another one?  Awesome!  My only disappointment was that the software is 2 weeks away from delivery...

4)  Macbook Air - mmmmm....not sure about this one.  I don't like to be negative about products I've never seen or used, but this one might be challenging for me to hold back from.   There is no user-replaceable battery and no optical drive.  It is wafer thin but they compromised the speed and usability to make that happen.  Think I'll skip the Macbook Air for now.

Overall, I'd rate the keynote about a B...

That's it for now kids...go out there and update your iPhones!

A Rough Night to Be in a Tank

my_nano_reef.jpg

Greetings Faithful Readers...

You may or may not know this about me....I'm a "fish guy". I have two nano-reefs complete with corals, invertebrates, and salt water fish...(photo at left) Usually a relaxing (if not expensive) hobby.

Tonight I said goodbye to two of my wet pets. My Skunk Clown died as a result of jumping out of the water and landing on a sponge in the back of the tank. Then, only a couple hours later, my little beta Spongebob died. I know they're only fish...but it still makes me sad. Non-fish folks just tell me...go to the fish store and pick out two that looks exactly like them....

Fish have personalities...traits that make each one unique. That's why I'll miss them.

A bit dramatic for dead fish? Indulge me.

I knew it.

I scored 72% on the Geek Quiz.  I always knew Stacie Gonzalez was more of a geek than me.  That's why she's awesome.

Welcome!

Greetings Faithful Readers...

Welcome to the new digs! I will be adding two new pages to this blog that will be reachable by the tabs you see above...a Mac page (with tips, tricks, and videos....a little trip to the Apple Store in my cranium)....and a Disney page. My new Disney page will be updated often with trivia, reviews, and the like.

Plus, look for more rants, raves, and randomness (as usual). See you real soon!
